From the earth exhibition

Each work begins not in the studio, but in the landscape itself. Pigment is gathered by hand from the land in which I live, crushed into powder, and bound to the canvas—carrying with it the traces of place. These pigments are combined with raw minerals not native to the land on which I live, but who’s pigment tell the story of the earth and it’s beauty. 

These works are not intended as exact representations of the landscape, but the importance of reconnecting with nature, a chance to pause, calm and reduce the stress load on the brain.

This exhibition is an online self guided tour, enhanced by soundscapes designed to take the viewer on a journey into the Mountains of the Great Dividing Range, in Queensland - Australia.

This is where the wild harvested pigment for the collection was respectfully harvested and where the artwork was created from my mountain studio.

We were incredibly blessed to recieve rain right before winter this year, nourishing the earth. I always feel most at peace and most creative when it rains. The hues of the earth appear brighter as they are washed clean. The sound of the rain falling on our tin roof sooothes me, hearing the water running into the tanks and filling the creeks is a blessing. Late in the evening when the world quietens, the howling wind dances through the mountains as the fireplace crackles and pops warming the air. With brush to canvas this is where I create, emboding the spirit of the land within the work.

I want my viewers to connect with the land, the elements and nature as they embrace the art. Hoping that it may bring light, peace and calm to another.

I will be giving acess to those who sign up for 'First look' entry an hour early, granting access on the 17th of September at 5pm with the public gaining access at 6pm.
